Tigers Eye

TIGERS EYE

These pieces were hand selected by Tiffany Farley. Tiger's Eye, a popular yet inexpensive gemstone, is a pseudomorph of compact Quartz after the fibrous mineral Crocidolite. It is formed when the Quartz takes over and dissolves the Crocodolite, leaving the Quartz in a finely fibrous and chatoyant form. Tiger's eye is formed when parallel veins of crocidolite (blue asbestos) fibres are first altered to iron oxides and then replaced by silica.

As a result it is more opaque, and has a rich yellow to brown color. It is mined primarily in Africa, but is also found in Brazil, Australia, and some parts of the United States.
